The Influencers #3

Ladies and gentlemen, Glen Hansard:

Glen is one of a few guitar players that heavily influenced me during my most formative guitar learning years (to date). Listening and playing along with Glen taught me a lot about the acoustic guitar, and a lot of that has carried over into almost everything I do when I play acoustic. Things like what dynamics do for a song, how to finger pick, even the chord voicings I use when I play in the key of E. Some people steal The Edge’s triad voicings, I steal Glen Hansard’s voicings.

He is also part of the reason I play a Takamine.

Basically, I like Glen because, like me, he’s not an amazing musician. He’s not an outstanding singer. But he has a buttload of energy. And that’s why people love him. And I figure if Glen can get away with that, I can too!

I hope you like the Tiny Desk concert. But it’s late, and I’m going to bed now.

2, Electric Boogoloo

In high school, my friend James and I decided that every sequel to everything would be better if it were subtitled “2, Electric Boogoloo.” So, here’s some more music. Since I had all acoustic, folky stuff last time, here is some electricity to shock you into the end of the week. Hope you enjoy.

Yeah. They’re a two piece. I know. Crazy.

These guys always seem so into themselves. But it’s OK. Because they make good music.

So we started with horns and then ended with horns. It’s a good mix.

(EDIT: Well, that was stupid. I didn’t even put up the Dear Hunter song with horns that I was thinking of… Stupid.)
